After spending a few days on Sentosa Island it was time to explore the vibrant city of Singapore. 24 hours of the best dumplings, history, culture, experiences and attractions. We packed a lot into this day but it was so worth it!
After arriving at our new hotel, the Five/6 Hotel Splendor in Geylang, it was time for food. We were all starving after a big day at Universal Studios Singapore and everyone was becoming ‘hangry’! Lucky for us our hotel was located in one of Singapore’s foodie areas and with plenty of amazing food options right round the corner. We decided to eat at Mongkok Dim Sum and gee I’m glad we did, it was amazing and well priced. Not only did I enjoy the food but also the vibe as we sat one the edge of Geylang Road. It is a bustling street full of people and food places, the perfect spot to people watch and take in the sights and smells of this amazing culture. We’d been pumping the kids to try Frog Porridge to which we got a resounding ‘no way’ every time we mentioned it. We were almost brave enough to order it to try ourselves but, alas, our bravery dwindled and we never did try it. Maybe next time?

We wandered down Geylang Road and were greeted by shop owners and chefs. The kids found it so interesting watching naan being made at an Indian restaurant and trying to name the types of fruit we strolled past. Time for bed before our big day in the city tomorrow.
I just love waking up to warmth and that is exactly what is was on that sunny day in Singapore. We started our day off with a nice long walk in search for good coffee and breakfast. Thanks to our trusty Bean Hunter App we found the amazing CSHH Coffee Bar in Kallang. I had the Orange Marmalade French Toast, which was absolutely delicious, and a nice strong coffee.

Having had out caffeine fix it was now time to see the sights. First stop, Clarke Quay. The colours of Clarke Quay are my favorite! Yes it is a very touristy area and you will get hounded by restaurant owners as you walk along the river, but it is so iconic and beautiful in its own right. The kids loved all the quirky art installations that we discovered along the way and the favourite was the love lock heart.

We walked across Read Bridge, down Read Street towards Fort Canning Park and climbed the hill to Raffles House. Here’s a tip – if its hot (which is usually is) then have some swimmers handy as Clarke Quay has some fun water fountains you can play in.

After finding some lunch and one of our favourite stores that isn’t in Sydney, we headed towards the famous Merlion to tick it off Bailee’s bucket list. It is so important to value their little list of things that they would like to see around the world. Even though the Merlion is such a tourist attraction, and also one that Matt and I have seen before, it was something Bailee just had to see for real, so we made sure that happened.

Next stop was to escape the heat for a little while and explore the Art Science Museum, which is the flower like building just in front of the Marina Bay Sands. We visited the Future World exhibition and played in the lights for a couple of hours while we cooled off.

A wander through Marina Bay Sands had Matt wide-eyed and even I thought it is truly an amazing building. It did feel somewhat like a maze as we tried to find the walkover to Gardens by the Bay, but we eventually found it and I was so excited to explore the majestic gardens!
We collected out tickets that had been put on hold for us by the lovely team at Gardens by the Bay and headed straight to the OCBC Skyway. We knew the Garden Rhapsody light show was going to start at 7:45pm and we didn’t want to miss it. The queue was long but we managed to get up on the skyway right on 7:45pm! The sky went dark, the trees lit up and we realized how high we were. It was magical and a tad scary at the same time!

Once we made it back down we did a bolt over to the Flower Dome and Cloud Dome before they closed. The domes are just incredible and completely took my breath away as we entered.The collection of plants and flowers from around the world is just amazing and will leave you in wide-eyed wonder as you follow the path through the domes.
Next time we visit Singapore we’ll spend a whole day at Gardens by the Bay and make sure we eat at Satay by the Bay!
Tip Bring swimmers for the kids when visiting Gardens by the Bay. There is a water play area in the Children’s Garden and with the heat, maybe parents will get wet too!

If you are visiting Singapore and think Gardens by the Bay is just a big tourist attraction and that you might not bother with it, then think again! This is one attraction you simply can’t miss. It’s one of those bucket list things and you’ll be so glad you did. Take your time, spend the day, and enjoy every part. I know we can’t wait to go back and enjoy it again.
There was the end of our last day in Singapore. I don’t think we could have fit more in if we tried! It was a fantastic 4 days but we still had more adventures to come as first thing in the morning we were off to Malaysia with our first stop, Legoland!
