The Ours and Theirs Travel Gift Guide 2017

Our 2017 Christmas Travel Gift Guide is here and this year I’ve put a little twist on things. You see, when I do Christmas gifts I like to either go with a theme or buy something that is great for the kids but also has an adults version. So here is my Ours and Theirs Travel Gift Guide for 2017!

Travel Towels

Taking a towel with you when you travel can be super handy. You just never know when you may find yourself needing to dry off or to use it as a picnic rug. The key is to find something lightweight and absorbent. Bonus if it comes in cute colours too!

Ours

Turkish towels have been one of my most favourite travel items for a while now and often a gift I buy for others. They are so lightweight and 100% cotton. We have one for each of us and we take them everywhere!

$25.00 AUD each. Various colours available. Full Disclosure: We earn a commission if you click this link and make a purchase at no extra cost to you.

Theirs

Turkish towels are fantastic for kids too and if your kiddos are used to the hooded beach towels then check out these super cute hooded Turkish towels for kids. Available is different colours and sizes.

$49.95 AUD each. Various colours and sizes. Full Disclosure: We earn a commission if you click this link and make a purchase at no extra cost to you.

Luggage

Can you ever have too many luggage options? I don’t think so! I like a bag for every occasion and not so much to match my outfit but to be as practical as possible. There is a fine art to carry on luggage, you want something light weight, correct size, easily transportable.

Ours

If you are looking for something lightweight and durable then a canvas carry on size bag is perfect. Great for someone who isn’t a fan of a rolling suitcase and a good size for a weekend trip.

$80.00 AUD. Full Disclosure: We earn a commission if you click this link and make a purchase at no extra cost to you.

Theirs

If you are looking for lightweight luggage options for kids and they are old enough to handle a rolling bag then you can’t go past the Kathmandu Tailspin Duffle Bag.

$99.98 AUD. Full Disclosure: We earn a commission if you click this link and make a purchase at no extra cost to you.

Back Pack

I am a huge fan of the humble backpack! So much so that I wrote a blog about it – Why My Kids Fly With Backpacks. If you are in need of a nice backpack for either the kids or another adult in your life then check out these ones for some ideas.

Ours

There are so many backpacks on the market that it makes it really hard to decide which one to get. I always start with something practical which is why I’ve chosen this one for my list this year. It has a USB charging port built in, is water resistant and has a ball/coat net that unfolds from the bottom.

$39.95 AUD. Full Disclosure: We earn a commission if you click this link and make a purchase at no extra cost to you.

Theirs

Did you read my blog about backpacks? If so then here is a great starting point for kids. Kathmandu Copycat Kids Backpack is great. I love how sturdy Kathmandu products are and having separate pockets helps sort things out and keep important things easily accessible.

$39.98 AUD. Full Disclosure: We earn a commission if you click this link and make a purchase at no extra cost to you.

Light

Why is a light on the list? Well because when you are in a hotel room with a child who normally sleeps with a night light then it is super handy to have a small battery operated light with you. Having a small torch when travelling is handy too. I know we have torches on our phones but draining the battery on your phone isn’t always a helpful thing to do either!

Ours

How cool is this multiple time zone, temperature, alarm/snooze, LED travel torch from Kathmandu. Perfect for any traveller and a nice compact size.

$23.98 AUD. Full Disclosure: We earn a commission if you click this link and make a purchase at no extra cost to you.

Theirs

A simple battery operated night light can help kids feel more comfortable in their new surroundings when travelling. It will also save having the main lights on all night which isn’t fun when sharing a room! Check out my cute little cloud friend here – perfect little stocking filler.

$17.50 AUD. Full Disclosure: We earn a commission if you click this link and make a purchase at no extra cost to you.

Headphones

A must for any traveller – need I say more?

Ours

Now these are not ones to buy the kids. Well, I wouldn’t anyway. But for the adults…um, yes please! The Bose QuietComfort 35 Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones would be the best gift under the tree for any travelling adult, I can guarantee that.

$437.10 AUD. Full Disclosure: We earn a commission if you click this link and make a purchase at no extra cost to you.

Theirs

Now, headphones for kids is one of the most popular travel items that I am asked about. I’ve tried SO MANY different types, from expensive to the cheapies and guess what? The cheaper ones win every time. The reason being that until the kids are old enough to learn not to break the wiring around the plug (and lets be honest, adults do it too) then the cheap ones are what they get! I also don’t bother with the volume controlled ones either as they are too quiet for travel on planes and in cars. As long as they fit comfortably over their little ears and you can lock the volume on their device then cheap (and fun) ones are great!

$15.00 AUD various colours. Full Disclosure: We earn a commission if you click this link and make a purchase at no extra cost to you.

Ear Muffs / Ear Plugs

Whether you are trying to get some sleep, read with some peace and quiet, checking out a loud event like Monster Trucks or watching fireworks, ear plugs or ear muffs are very handy for all big and little travellers.

Ours

Ear plugs are super handy and, although I haven’t personally tried Mack’s Earplugs, they have come recommended to me by other world travellers. Perfect little stocking filler and they come with a handy little travel case.

$12.95 AUD. Full Disclosure: We earn a commission if you click this link and make a purchase at no extra cost to you.

Theirs

Both my kids are sensitive to loud noises. We always have our kids ear muffs on hand for this very reason. The festive season often comes complete with fireworks at events and that is one of the places that our earmuffs must come with us (just don’t leave them in the car like I sometimes do…). I also used to use them to dull the startling sounds on an aircraft if they are sleeping.

$36.50 AUD. Full Disclosure: We earn a commission if you click this link and make a purchase at no extra cost to you.

Pillow Case

A little bit of home when you are away from home can be really nice sometimes which is why I often take my own pillow when road tripping. When I can’t take my whole pillow, instead, I take my pillowcase!

Ours

Not the most glamorous of gifts but if you are an allergy sufferer like me then you too would be stoked to find this gem in your Christmas stocking. The TENCEL™ Signature Series from Protect-A-Bed® is my favourite product at the moment. The protector comes in various pillow and mattress sizes. It’s Miracle Layer™ is both waterproof and breathable. Not only is it perfect for people with allergies but also for kids who sometimes struggle with staying dry at night. These products are so lightweight, waterproof and soft enough to sleep directly on making them easy to pack and put straight onto any hotel bed or pillow. (Just don’t forget them when you leave!)

From $34.99 AUD. Product gifted to us, no further commission received.

Theirs

If you are travelling over Christmas this year, then why not pack a little Christmas cheer! (like that one…?!) I can’t quite fit a Christmas tree in my luggage so instead we pack little things like Christmas pillowcases to help decorate wherever we are staying. Tip – if Elf on the Shelf sneaks into your luggage or home over Christmas then these are a great Elf gift!

$4.00 AUD. No affiliate on this item.

Snorkel Mask

If a beach holiday is on the cards then you simply can’t go past these awesome full face snorkel masks for the whole family!

Ours and Theirs

Imagine being able to breath through your mouth AND nose when snorkeling. Now you can! These are a fantastic product and come in various sizes and colours, perfect for everyone in the family because a family that snorkels together… must be on an awesome holiday!

$49.00 AUD. Full Disclosure: We earn a commission if you click this link and make a purchase at no extra cost to you.

Mini Gift Sets

I love to receive mini gift sets simply because they are perfect to travel with!

Ours

Whether it be mini hand creams or fragrances, these little guys are not only handy for the handbag but also the suitcase! (Just make sure each bottle is 100ml or less when travelling internationally)

$26.00 AUD. Full Disclosure: We earn a commission if you click this link and make a purchase at no extra cost to you.

Theirs

Small Lego® sets are perfect for little travellers. Great to keep hands busy and minds creating. Why not include a small bag or pencil case to keep it in too.

$15.95 AUD. Full Disclosure: We earn a commission if you click this link and make a purchase at no extra cost to you.

Activities

If you have a long plane trip ahead of you then can I recommend a couple of our favourite activities?

Ours

I like to unwind by drawing, that is me drawing and no little hands adding any creative flare to MY drawing! I also enjoy doing Dot to Dots which is just as relaxing. These adult Dot to Dot books are loads of fun to do and a really nice way to pass the time mid flight.

$11.25 AUD. Full Disclosure: We earn a commission if you click this link and make a purchase at no extra cost to you.

Theirs

I have always been a fan of the Crayola Color Wonder packs and especially for little kids when travelling. The reason is because the markers are clear unless used in the special books. No more marker all of the plane tray tables and windows!

$8.00 AUD. Full Disclosure: We earn a commission if you click this link and make a purchase at no extra cost to you.
